Senior Engineer
Fugro PMS is a high technology engineering consultancy that that has a long history in road infrastructure asset management. Our services include field data collection and distress rating, engineering analysis and modelling, design specification, forensic investigation, specifications for contract documentation, construction quality assurance and road asset management activities.
Overview of Position:
Fugro is searching for a registered professional engineer for the position of Senior Engineer. The position involves considerable independence in approach, demanding a high degree of originality, ingenuity, judgement and knowledge of more than one field of pavements, or expertise in a particular field of professional pavement engineering. You will provide technical leadership, ensuring effective management of projects. You will manage and conduct pavement inspections and surveys; plan pavement testing requirements, manage sub-contractors and carry-out analysis and interpretation of FWD, visual, laser, coring and GPR data; undertake the design and management of pavements and development of the most economic solutions, specifying pavement materials and liaising with the client.
Education:
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree (field of pavement).
- Masters in the field of pavements will be highly considered.
Duties:
Engineering Consulting – 40%
- Prepare technical reports ranging from pavement design, investigations, road asset management activities, network modelling and budgetary forecasting.
- Prepare technical papers for submission to industry conferences.
- Undertake client training sessions.
Project Management & Client Liaison – 40%
- Supervise the smooth running of projects, ensuring compliance with contract specifications regarding data quality and technical standards.
- Provide technical support on data and equipment issues to field operations, as required.
- Report to client on project progress and discuss technical aspects of projects with client.
- Prepare cost estimates and respond to tender requests, as required.
- Review technical specifications in preparing proposals and contracts.
- Ensure safety and quality standards are being maintained.
Financial Management - 20%
- Work with existing accounting and financial systems to ensure all project invoicing is done accurately and in a timely manner.
- Conduct monthly financial work in progress and end of project analysis in consultation with the General Manager and accounting.
Requirements:
Experience
- 5-10 years experience working in the road infrastructure / civil engineering industry.
- Chartered Engineer and/or able to be recognised by the Institute of Professional Engineers NZ (IPENZ).
Skills/Abilities
- Strong communication skills - verbal and written.
- Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
- Knowledge of GIS software packages.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good interpersonal skills; must be a team player.
- Ability to motivate self and others.
Working Conditions
The position will require the individual to be able to travel periodically in NZ and internationally as projects dictate.
